John Atkin
John Atkin joined the Orchestra at the beginning of the 2013/14 season.
With over 25 years' conducting experience, John has worked on more than 100 Theatre productions and Orchestral concerts ranging from Sondheim to Sibelius.
Born and Bred in York, his first public performance was as a 9 year old playing La Cucaracha on the Recorder in the Assembly Rooms. He later studied Music in Harrogate & Bath and first worked professionally in York Theatre Royal as an off stage Bass Trombonist for York City Opera Group!
After College, he worked freelance around the South West which included work for Bath Theatre Royal, Bristol Hippodrome, The BBC, The National Trust and as a soloist with the Amadeus Orchestra.
Since returning to York John has worked with many local societies, Choirs and Bands as both Pianist and MD and is also a Freeman of the City.
John is the proud father of 3 boys and in his spare time coaches Junior Rugby union for York.
He spends his days teaching in Leeds.
