Martin Farmery



Martin Farmery joined the York Light Orchestra in September 2014 as a member of the trombone section.

Martin began to learn the trombone at the age of 11, and at the earliest opportunity enlisted in the British Army as a Bandsman, receiving training at the Royal Military School of Music.

He has performed throughout the world including Hong Kong, Australia, USA and Europe at high profile state ceremonial engagements representing the United Kingdom.

Martin retired from the British Army in 2007 at the rank of Sergeant Major, and now is a full time repairer of brass and woodwind musical instruments. He assumed the role of conductor of the York Light Orchestra in September 2016, however still playing trombone in shows and productions in York and the surrounding area.
